Sustainable and Slow: the Art of Atta Crafts from Bali

Crafting Atta Items: A Labor of Love

Step 1: Weaving: Atta grass, known for its durability and water resistance, is handwoven by skilled artisans. Each bag or basket takes several days to complete, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship involved.

Step 2: Drying: After weaving, the newly crafted items are sun-dried for several days.

Step 3: Coloring: Achieving the beautiful golden brown hue involves smoking the items over coconut husk for days. This process requires constant attention to ensure even coloring.

Step 4: Final Touches: Handles, bows, and fasteners are meticulously added by hand. Each detail, down to the smallest stitch, is carefully crafted to perfection.

Step 5: Batik Lining (for bags): Adding to their beauty, each bag is lined with traditional Batik fabric, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Indonesia.

These slow-made atta woven craft are a superior product of Karangasem Regency in Bali, which is done by hand without using machines and has long-lasting material properties. Apart from that, this product is environmentally friendly because the waste from woven atta is easily recycled naturally so it does not cause environmental pollution.
